Artist and designer Yang Liu recognized that much of our own biases are invisible to us, so routine that we don’t give them a second thought. With that in mind, he created this set of simple images depicting common stereotypes and double standards around gender. Each points out the ridiculousness of a specific gendered view; the double-standard of the modern and sophisticated stay-at-home dad vs. the “housewife”, our claim that the hobbies of the opposite sex are baffling, and the assumptions we make about someone’s habits based on gender alone. Liu’s project will definitely get you thinking about what we consider to be inherently true, that isn’t so inherent after all.
